Using QR Codes with APEX – 4 Ways #JoelKallmanDay

It’s been a while since I sat down and wrote anything. #JoelKallmanDay and the #APEX community was worth finding a spare moment and focus on.

The current action (that is in development) for some of our experiences that are share #DrivenByData #PlayWithSeriousIntent that you might have seen at a few different events. I’ve explored the space of introducing QR codes into the experience. There are a few different ways that we are looking at it.

What I found was (and I knew existed), was a massive community of APEX developers that share and one of those ways is through APEX plug-ins and packaged code. Here are a sample of the ones that I’ve explored further. this diagram may not makes sense, but we explored the how we can simplify the whole experience for everyone.

The first one was for a simple self-registration form for the experience. This is not just a link to a website but also needs the context of which leaderboard, which event. Refer to this one by Jan Navratil …

The next one that I explored was more from the scanning perspective. “How might I use a QR code that was generated. This is where I found Ronny Weiss and this QR Code Scanner.

https://github.com/RonnyWeiss/APEX-QR-Code-Scanner

This was fine and then we looked at ways people might save the QR code that we can scan. Stuart Coggins (who I’m working with on this) was working on Email in APEX so adding the QR code to as email generated content. As this is all dynamic, then adding the image as an embedded image in the HTML made sense (at least to me). Hence, this is where I found this by Zoran Tica …

There are a few different other ways of working with QR Codes with APEX – Stuart started with pure javascript libraries and working in with that lens.

Continue to check the out these resources to find more APEX plugins:

or even just on github which was where I started this.

As I mentioned, this has been a time that I haven’t able to sit and write much. And watching the time, and the space to do the things that are important. I will leave this here and build this out. I just wanted to share this on #JoelKallmanDay (whilst the Oct 11th exists somewhere in the world).

I am passionate about how organisations adopt IT quickly and sustainably to achieve a specific and measurable outcome. This thinking is supported through lean IT practices in operational support and project delivery, and adopting these practices with Oracle technologies by creating sustainable platforms. I'm also interested different perspectives and drivers - from enterprise to start-ups, academia to commercial to public sector, cost-sensitive (risk) to value-driven (reward) - all of which influences decisions that organisations make. I have a passion for community and have been called "a connector" - meeting new people that are trying to solve valuable and hard problems and connecting them with others that can validate and help realise their full potential. I've supported different organisations like TADHack and Hacking Health as a global organiser. I'm is a persistent blogger on medium.com and redthunder.blog and on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/lowe-jason #CommunityMatters #ItTakesAVillage
